Can you guess where I'm SLEEPING AROUND SAFELY now?
A clue, this hotel was the first to bear the name "Ritz" in Barcelona, Spain - the city's first five-star hotel. The hotel is walking distance to hot spots like: Passeig de Gracia, the Old City and Plaza Real. The 360 view from the rooftop is the best in the city - from the beaches to the Sagrada Familia - there is a lively restaurant bar, pool and robust programming - including movie night under the stars.
Many notable figures have snuggled in at El Palace Hotel Barcelona. The 16 "art suites" are named after them, including Josephine Baker the suite which I checked into. Ronny Wood of the Rolling Stones is known to knock on the door of guests who are sleeping in his suite! The hotel was the perfect pre-trip for our Explora Journeys cruise around the Mediterranean. The new MSC Cruise Port is easily accessible from the hotel.
We immersed ourselves in art both inside and outside the hotel, including a walk through 1,000 years of art with an Art Curator from the Museu Nacional D'Art de Catalunya. The creativity doesn't stop at the museums either, we sipped our way through the craft cocktail menu at the ultimate speakeasy with a sustainable mission, guided by the master mixologist of Paradiso Barcelona.
Chef Gonzalo Meroi has cooked for President Obama at the suggestion of Chef Jose Andreas at AMAR on the street level of El Palace Hotel...you could imagine my intrigue in discovering for myself. Chef took me to meet his local suppliers before we headed back into the kitchen to make a few of his favorite dishes. Tip: eat anything on his menu with the chickpeas.

Guruli Suneli making video is a cinematic tribute to the living traditions of Guria, a region in western Georgia where heritage is preserved not in museums, but in family homes, gardens, songs, and shared meals.
Together with my daughter, we prepare Guruli Suneli, in the backyard of Kintikara Retreat Space, the region's beloved aromatic spice blend, using herbs grown in our garden. We grind the herbs by hand in a traditional stone mortar, following techniques passed down through generations. As we work, we sing Gurian folk songs together, celebrating the famous polyphonic tradition that has long been the heartbeat of our region. In these moments, cooking becomes more than preparing food - it becomes an act of remembering, teaching, and belonging.
The film shows how knowledge is passed naturally from parent to child, through shared work, music, laughter, and everyday rituals. Every handful of herbs, every note of song, and every stone in the old courtyard tells a story of resilience, identity, and love for the land.
This film invites viewers into a home, where culture is lived every day and where the spirit of Guria is experienced through its people, its flavors, and its songs.
It is an invitation to discover Guria through the senses—to hear its voices, breathe its aromas, and experience the warmth of a family keeping its traditions alive for future generations.
